Prepare for things that go bump in the night as the UK Ghost Story Festival returns to Derby for its fourth year. Fans of chilling tales will be flocking to the city – known as one of the most haunted in the country – to explore the genre. Published authors and other experts will be on hand to share their knowledge on the subject. The UK Ghost Story Festival includes in-person events taking place at Derby’s Museum of Making from February 16 to 18, as well as an online event running from February 12 to 15.

This year’s speakers include Dr Charlotte Baker, an author and lecturer with nearly 70 publications to her name; Richard Farren Barber, author of more than 80 short stories; We Belong Dead magazine editor Darrell Buxton and Imogen Edwards-Jones, author of Taming of Eagles. More than 30 authors will share their stories, techniques and inspirations, making it a great event for fans and budding ghost story authors alike.

Explore ‘spooktacular’ Derby

Derby makes a fitting venue for this festival, which is expected to attract thousands of fans. The city is known as the ghost capital of the UK due to more than 1,000 recorded paranormal sightings and goings on. In fact, the old Derby Gaol, found at numbers 50 and 51 Friars Gate, is one of the most haunted places in the country. So those heading to the festival might want to make a stay of it and spend some time ghost hunting around the city.
