Anything goes – that is the motto of Paracinema Film Festival, being held in Derby from September 22 to 25. If you love films that fall outside of the mainstream genres, then this is the event for you. Visitors to the festival can see films never screened in Derby before, spanning the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres as well as other film genres and sub genres that do not often hit the big screen. A major event in the calendar of alternative film aficionados, thousands of enthusiasts are expected to descend on Derby during the course of the four-day festival.
Paracinema – the best in alternative film
This year’s special guest will be Sean Hogan, author of England’s Screaming, who will take part in a Q&A about his new book Twilight’s Last Screaming. Nucleus Films will also be showing Too Beautiful to Die, while there will also be a re-release preview of 1974 Joan Collins film Dark Places. Midnight Peepshow, a portmanteau film, will also be shown and there will be a screening of Diabolik (CORR) – one of just a few UK screenings of this classic comic book adaptation. The Paracinema Film Festival will also welcome the Pop-Up Puppet Cinema, which recreates cult movies in a 20-minute Punch and Judy style. This year, they will take on Back to the Future and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
